Mailbox Server Role
The Mailbox Server Role on Exchange 2007 is where all data is stored. This includes mailboxes and public folders. Outlook connects to this role, and remote access from the CAS server ultimately ends up here as well.
Where * appears after the article, it is in the Exchange 2010 section, but the same process applies to Exchange 2007.
